Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Nibbit, a daily coding-practice game ("Nibbit", "we"). By using Nibbit you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
What Nibbit is
Nibbit gives you a short set of coding questions once a day, grades them, and keeps a streak, level, and leaderboard position for you. Content and features may change, and the service may be interrupted or discontinued at any time.
Who may use it
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.
Your account and username
- Nibbit gives you a username the first time you play. You can change it in the app, but not more than once every 30 days — a username is how people recognise you on a leaderboard, and a name that changes every day is not one.
- When you change it, your old username is held for 30 days before anyone else can take it, so nobody can pick up a name that is still sitting on yesterday's board.
- You are responsible for keeping any sign-in you add (email, Apple, Google) secure. Progress is tied to that sign-in.
- You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account. Deletion is permanent; what it removes is listed under Suspension and termination below.
Names and photos
Your username, any name shown beside it, and your profile photo are visible to other players on leaderboards and to people you add as friends. So they have to be fit for that: no impersonating another person, us, or anyone official-sounding; no slurs or hate speech; no sexual content; nothing you would not want sitting beside a stranger's streak.
Usernames are screened on our server every time one is claimed or changed. A name that does not pass is refused there and then, with the reason. That screen is a list of terms rather than a judgment, so it catches the obvious and misses the inventive — which is why reporting exists as well. If a name gets through that should not have, we may reset it.
Fair play
Leaderboards only mean something if everyone plays the same game. You agree not to automate play, tamper with the app or its network traffic, exploit bugs to gain XP or rank, share answers to a live drop, or interfere with other players. We may correct or remove scores, reset a username, suspend an account, or close it. What each of those means is set out below.
Scores and standing
Your streak, XP, level, and leaderboard position are a record of how you have played. They are not property, they have no cash value, and they cannot be bought, sold, or transferred.
We may correct them. That happens when a bug pays out XP it should not have, when an exploit is used, when a device clock is moved forward to fake a day, or when you tell us something went wrong and you turn out to be right. A correction can move a number down as well as up, and it can mean clearing a progression record entirely so the server rebuilds it the next time you play.
Reporting another player
If someone's username or behaviour is a problem, you can report them from a leaderboard row or your friends list. The report records who filed it, who it is about, the reason you chose, anything you wrote, and the username that player had at the time — so renaming does not shake a report off.
A report goes to a person, and nothing happens to the reported account until someone reads it. Blocking is a separate thing and takes effect immediately: reporting someone does not block them, and blocking them does not report them.
Filing reports you know to be untrue, or filing them to harass someone, breaks these terms as surely as anything else on this page, and carries the same consequences. There is a cap on how many reports you can have open at once, so that the queue stays readable for the person reading it.
How we review an account
Before we suspend or close an account, a person looks at it. We can see that account's recent drops and the individual answers on them, including how long each answer took, so that a suspicion can be checked instead of acted on. We would rather look and find nothing.
Every action a moderator takes — a suspension, a deletion, a change to someone's progress, a reply to a support message, a report closed — is written to a log that names the moderator who did it. That log is internal, not public. It is there so that when we get something wrong we can see what we did and put it back where we can.
Content
The puzzles, explanations, artwork, and software in Nibbit are ours or licensed to us. You may use them for your own learning. You may not copy, redistribute, or sell them. Anything you submit (an answer, a report of a wrong puzzle) you grant us permission to use to run and improve Nibbit.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy describes what we collect and why. It is part of these terms.
No warranty
Nibbit is provided "as is". We do not promise it will be available, error-free, or that every puzzle's accepted answer is correct, though we fix mistakes when we learn of them. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of Nibbit, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us, which is currently nothing.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using Nibbit at any time, and you can delete your account yourself from Settings → Account → Delete account. That is your call and it needs no reason. It is permanent, and it removes your progress and answer history, your username, your friendships and invitations, your photo, any support messages you sent us, and any reports you filed or that were filed about you, along with your sign-in. If you want a copy of your data first, export it from Settings → Account → Export my data.
We may suspend an account that breaks these terms. A suspension refuses sign-in — your data stays where it is, but you cannot reach it. A suspension can be lifted, which is why it is the first thing we reach for.
We may close an account for a serious or repeated breach. Closing it runs the same deletion as the one in the app, and it is just as permanent — there is no copy of your streak held back for later.
Short of either, we may correct or remove scores and reset a username.
If you think we have got it wrong, email us. We will tell you what we can.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the app or on this page, with a new effective date. Continuing to use Nibbit after a change means you accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Contact and support
You can write to us from Settings → Contact support in the app, and a person reads it and replies there. If you are playing as a guest, you can add an email address so a reply can still reach you — without one, a reply can only go back to the account that sent it.
If you have been suspended and cannot sign in, or you would rather not use the app, contact us through the support page.
